Which Marcus are we meeting?
This is Marcus returning from the Pendulum Wars, facing an enemy he has never fought. His experience against human soldiers does not prepare him for a Locust Drone forcing its way into a room. The 2024 reveal deliberately places him in a desperate, close struggle to establish that difference.[4]
The story begins in Kalona around an armistice memorial. Marcus and Dom have survived one war, but the peace gives their grief room to surface. Reading Marcus only as the assured leader of the later games misses the starting point of this campaign.[2]
Marcus, Dom and Carlos
Carlos Santiago was Dom’s older brother and Marcus’s best friend. His death late in the Pendulum Wars leaves both men grieving. Marcus and Dom already know one another; E-Day is about how that connection becomes the brotherhood familiar from the original games, rather than their first introduction.[2][4]
So was Marcus closer to Carlos or Dom? At the beginning of this story, Carlos is the lost best friend. That explains the distance between the survivors; it is not a ranking of how much Marcus will care about Dom over the rest of the series. The campaign’s emotional question is how the two learn to rely on each other after that loss.[2]
Marcus in E-Day
In co-op, Marcus is one of four playable campaign characters, alongside Dom, Mags Carter and Lucas Reyes. All four are available from the beginning. Playing cooperatively does not require everyone to take turns as Marcus; see Campaign & Co-op for the platform and player-count limits.[2]
John DiMaggio returns as Marcus, with Carlos Ferro returning as Dom. These are the characters’ actors, not the names of additional members of Bravo Squad. Mags and Lucas complete the playable squad, with Elizabeth Ludlow and Jake Ryan Lozano performing those roles respectively.[2]
Age and where to start
How old is Marcus in E-Day?
The official E-Day sources reviewed here establish the fourteen-year gap before the first game, but do not explicitly give Marcus’s age. Subtracting fourteen from an age quoted for another story is a calculation, not a new official E-Day biography. We therefore leave his exact age unconfirmed rather than attach an unsupported number to the fact box.[3][4]
You can understand this version of Marcus without reading a complete account of his later life. Start with Emergence Day’s timeline for the chronology and Dom’s entry for the other side of their relationship. Those explain the premise without revealing the original trilogy’s major outcomes.
